Owls Split with USM

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team concluded their home season with a split versus non-conference University of St. Mary (Kan.) Thursday afternoon. The Owls won the back-and-forth game one, 13-9. They dropped game two, 7-1, to move to 14-20 on the season.

The Owls jump back to conference play for their final two regular season conference doubleheaders starting on Saturday, April 24. First pitch at Harris-Stowe State University is at 1 p.m.
 
 
Game One
WWU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with Emma Taylor's two-run homer. 
 
In the top of the second, USM evened the score on a two RBI double down the left field line.
 
WWU scored four in the bottom of the second to take a 6-2 lead. Jaden Swift led off with a double down the left field line. Bri Devellano walked, and Lindy Wilson moved everyone a base on her single to load up the bases. Swift scored the go-ahead run on Celeste Sermeno's sacrifice fly to center field. Mia Santos then dropped a three-run bomb over the right field fence to clear the bases.
 
USM took the 7-6 lead in the fifth as they plated five runs.
 
WWU again went ahead in the bottom of the inning as seven runs crossed home plate. Santos plated the game-tying run on Taylor's RBI single to right-center, and Taylor scored on a passed ball for the go-ahead run. Ally Mahoney and Swift scored on Devellano's at bat, and Taylor Bell scored on Sermeno's RBI single up the middle. USM walked in the Owls' final two runs of the inning.
 
USM had two cross home plate in the top of the seventh on a two-out two RBI single, but the Owls' defense ended the inning with two runners stranded in scoring position to win the game 13-9.
 
Santos went 3-4 from the plate with a single, a double, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. 
 
Taylor went 2-3 from the plate with four RBI and two runs scored. Swift also went 2-3 from the plate with two runs scored. 
 
Ashlyn Towery (1-5) came in as relief and pitched 2.2 innings. She struck out two. Kalee Wall started in the circle and pitched 4.1 innings. 
 
Game Two
USM took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a home run. They added one in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and five in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead.
 
The Owls plated their one and only run of game two in the bottom of the sixth. Ally Mahoney hit a RBI double to score Mallory Feldewerth
 
The Owls recorded nine hits. Mahoney finished with two doubles and a RBI. Swift also recorded two hits.
 
Alexis Hassler (9-9) pitched the complete game and struck out two.
