ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team closed out their regular season with a pair of road wins at University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Tuesday evening. The Owls grabbed a 2-1 win in game one. UHSP forced an extra inning in game two, but the Owls came out with a 6-5 win.
The Owls end their regular season with an 18-20 overall record, 10-8 in conference play.
The American Midwest Conference Championship begins on Wednesday, May 5, at the Antimi Softball Complex in Columbia, Mo. The Owls enter as the five-seed and will play four-seeded Williams Baptist at 11 a.m.

Game One
The Owls scored their only two runs of the game in the first inning. After
Celeste Sermeno led off the game with a double to left field, she was moved to third on
Mia Santos' sacrifice bunt.
Emma Taylor then hit a RBI triple to right field, easily bringing Sermeno home.
Mallory Feldewerth then came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly to center, and Taylor tagged up and came home.
UHSP scored one run in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI double, cutting the game to 2-1. They looked to win on a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh as they loaded up the bases with two outs, but a fly out to left-center field ended the game.
The Owls put up 10 hits total. Taylor, Feldewerth and
Devyn Burton each recorded two hits.
Alexis Hassler (11-9) pitched the complete game win. She struck out eight while allowing just one run.
Game Two
WWU plated the first run of the game on a Taylor sacrifice fly to score Sermeno, but UHSP matched with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
With bases loaded and one out in the second,
Jaden Swift RBI singled to left field, scoring Burton.
Sydney Wilbeck scored on the throw on that same play.
UHSP plated their second run of the game in the second on an error.
With bases loaded in the fourth inning, Taylor hit a RBI fielder's choice, scoring WIlbeck and giving the Owls a 4-2 lead.
UHSP rallied to even the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI triple followed by a RBI single. After an error extended their inning, a line out to
Kalee Wall on the pitching mound sent the game into extra innings.
WWU plated two in the eighth on an error, giving the Owls a 6-4 lead.
UHSP added one in the bottom of the inning on a RBI double. They looked to even the score again, but the runner was tagged out at home to end the game with a 6-5 Owls' win.
Game two was an error-heavy game with both teams combining for 11 total errors. The Owls were outhit 15-7.
Sermeno went 3-3 from the plate with two doubles and two runs scored. Swift finished with three hits and a RBI.
Wall (5-6) was credited with the win. She pitched 7.1 innings and struck out two. Hassler came in as relief. She pitched the remaining 0.2 innings and grabbed the save.
