Softball Splits with Lincoln College on Senior Day

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team split with Lincoln College Saturday afternoon. The Owls lost game one of the split, 8-7, before winning in extra innings in game two 6-5 on a Devyn Burton walk off hit. The Owls move to 8-14 on the season. 

WWU will host Stephens College next for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 6, starting at 1 p.m. 


Game 1:  

Lincoln scored early in the game with three runs, and the Owls would answer the call with putting three runs on the board in the first inning with a single from Devyn Burton to score Lindy Wilson and Hanna Knipp's double to deep left center scored Mallory Feldewerth and Devyn Burton.   

Another run for the Lynx scored in the second inning and WWU would reply with Lindy Wilson single scoring Celeste Sermeno.   

The Lynx would post four in the bottom of the fifth. The Owls would score three runs of their own with Emma Taylor scoring on a wild pitch and Mallory Feldewerth and Devyn Burton scored on Ally Mahoney's double, rounding out the scoring.  

WWU's Alexis Hassler 5-6 was credited with the loss.  

Game: 2: 

WWUs Katie Gaus got the Owls on the board with an RBI single scoring Devyn Burton in the bottom of the second inning. 

The Lynx scored three runs in the top of the third inning and another two runs in the fourth inning. Owls Mia Santos hit an RBI single to score Katie Gaus and Celeste Sermeno scored tagging on Lindy Wilson's fly ball in the sixth. Devellano and Santos scored on Emma Taylor's double also in the sixth inning for the owls. WWU Devyn Burton's walk off hit scored Mia Santos in the eighth inning.  

Kalee Wall (3-3) came into relief and is credited with a win for the Owls.  
 

Prior to the game WWU honored three seniors: catcher Bri Devellano, outfielder Lindy Wilson and manager Veronica Townsend.
