POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team fell to College of the Ozarks in a single nine-inning game Tuesday afternoon. The game was ended in the eighth inning as COFO went up 13-2 on a walk-off home run to end it.
The Owls fall to 12-11 on the season.
WWU took an early 1-0 lead as
Isaiah Gibbs scored on
Connor Poulson's fielder's choice in the first inning.
COFO plated two in the bottom of the inning on a RBI triple and a RBI single to take a 2-1 lead. They added five more in the fourth on a grand slam and a RBI single to take a 7-1 lead.
WWU scored their second run in the fifth on Gibbs' sacrifice fly to center field, scoring
Erik Stewart.
COFO matched the Owls in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own off a home run. They added three more in the sixth and two off a home run in the eighth to short-game the Owls 13-2.
The Owls were outhit 13-4.
Marcus Gonzalez finished with two hits on four at-bats.
Kaleb Haley (2-1) was credited with the loss. He pitched 3.0 innings and struck out three.
The Owls jump back to conference play with their four-game series at Harris-Stowe State University starting on Friday, April 9, at 1 p.m.
