Volleyball Advances to AMC Semifinals

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team advances to the American Midwest Conference Championship semifinals following Tuesday evening's 3-1 win over Hannibal-LaGrange University in the quarterfinals. The Owls improve to 12-2 on the season with the win.
 
The Owls won 25-17, 25-15, 22-25, 25-17.
 
As the no. two seed, the Owls will host three-seeded Columbia College on Thursday, April 8, at 7 p.m. The winner of the match will then advance to the championship game.
 
 
By The Numbers
33 – Tess Schannuth assisted in 33 kills.
15 – Tori Rosemann led the floor with 15 digs. Emily Greif finished with 14.
10 – Lanie Lowry led the Owls with 10 kills, hitting .467 on the night.
8 – Faith McQueen and Hannah Kuehl finished with eight kills and each hit over .300. 
4 – Lauren Hiestand served up four aces. Faith McQueen and Hannah Kuehl finished with four blocks each.
 

Game Highlights
The Owls blasted a 13-0 run in the first set to take up a 19-6 lead. After HLG responded with a 7-0 run, the Owls closed out the set with two kills from Baylie Petry, 25-17.
 
Lauren Hiestand served two aces while Lanie Lowry and Kate Doerhoff put down kills to give the Owls a 4-0 lead to start set two. They pushed a 9-0 run midway through to take a 18-9 lead. A block from Kylie Zamboni-Cutter and Kassidy Phillips ended the set with a 25-15 win.
 
After leading through much of set three, HLG used three consecutive WWU errors to take a 21-19 lead. HLG took up a 23-19 lead, but the Owls closed the gap to 23-22 following a kill from Faith McQueen and two kills from Riley Alton. HLG scored the final two points though to take a set, 25-22.
 
The Owls and HLG were close in play until halfway through set four. A HLG service error put the Owls up 12-11, and the Owls slowly pushed ahead. A block by Hannah Kuehl and Petry put the Owls up 21-14, and Petry slammed down the final kill of the match to win it 25-17.
