ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team defeated Harris-Stowe State University 2-0 in the American Midwest Conference Championship First Round to advance to the quarterfinals. This win moves the Owls to 4-4-1.
HSSU started firing off four shots but were all unable to find the back of the net.
After two unsuccessful shots by
Zachary Baliva for the Owls,
Sam Allen scored a goal with assist by
Jon Buerge grabbing the lead, 1-0, with 26 minutes in the clock.
Just eight minutes later, another perfect pass by Buerge to
Lucio Prado Born who found the back of the net extending the lead for the Owls, 2-0.
In the second half, both teams were unable to score.
The Owls outshot HSSU 13-9.
Ben Faherty started the game between the posts and had two saves.
Iker Gonzalez came in at halftime and made one stop.
The Owls will play Columbia College in the AMC Quarterfinals on Saturday, April 10. The game time is 1 p.m.
