Volleyball Sweeps Lincoln, 3-0

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team swept Lincoln College (Ill.) Friday evening, 3-0. The Owls won 25-10, 25-19, 25-21. The win improves the Owls to 11-4.
 
Tess Schannuth surpassed the 1,500-assist mark during the win. She now sits with 1,554 career assists.
 
The Owls next host University of Saint Mary (Kan.) on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
40 – The Owls combined for 40 kills to outdo Lincoln 40-22.
30 – Tess Schannuth led the floor with 30 assists.
17 – Emily Greif led the floor with 17 digs.
16 – Tori Rosemann recorded 16 digs.

Match Highlights
The Owls jumped out to an impressive 9-0 lead to start the set with four kills from Hannah Kuehl, two kills from Riley Alton, a kill from Tess Schannuth and an ace from Emily Greif. The Owls then strung together a 7-1 run including three kills from Lanie Lowry to give the Owls a 17-3 lead. Lincoln started to score more, but a 5-0 run ending with a block from Kuehl and Schannuth ended the set with a 25-10 win.
 
The Owls and Lincoln stayed even throughout the start of set two, but a 6-1 run with kills from Kuehl and Lowry gave the Owls a five-point lead, 17-12. After allowing Lincoln to score two more, the team put together a 5-0 run to take a 22-14 lead. Despite Lincoln's attempt to inch back into the set, an attack error on Lincoln ended set two with a 25-19 Owls' win.
 
Lincoln started set three with a 3-0 lead, and the Owls stayed one step behind for the first few points. A 3-0 run with kills from Alton, Greif and Kuehl gave the Owls a 10-8 lead, and they continued to take up a four-point lead following a block from Kassidy Phillips. Lincoln blasted a 6-0 run following their timeout to take a two-point lead, 16-14. The lead bounced back-and-forth over the next few points, but a 5-0 Owls' run filled with three service aces from Greif brought the Owls to set point, 24-19. A Lincoln attack error ended the match with a 25-21 set three win for the Owls.
