FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team fell to Harris-Stowe State University 1-0 in this afternoon's conference opener. The Owls dropped to 2-5 on the season and 1-2 in AMC play.
In the first period, the Owls had three opportunities to score but they were unable to find the back of the net.
HSSU grabbed the lead of the game with a goal in the 51
st minute, 1-0.
Less than a minute later,
Iker Gonzalez passed the ball from a few yards outside the box to the other box to
Michael Bhat to tie the game for the Owls, 1-1.
With the clock hitting the 56
th minute mark, HSSU scored on an own goal to win the match, 2-1.
HSSU outshot the Owls, 18-5.
Gonzalez (0-2) made eight stops in between the posts with six coming in the second period.
Next for the Owls is No. 4 Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 5:30 p.m.
