Owls Fall to UHSP

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team fell to University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Tuesday evening, 58-44. The Owls drop to 3-12 on the season and are still searching for their first conference win.
 
The Owls continue their home stretch as they host Central Baptist College on Thursday, Jan. 13, at 5:30 p.m.

13 – Sydney Booker and Kasey Hazell each recorded a team-high 13 points. Booker shot 75 percent from the field and Hazell shot 60 percent.

Game Highlights
The Owls jumped in the lead after back-to-back jumpers from Sydney Booker and Kasey Hazell, 4-3. They went back in the lead with a layup from Natalie Thomas, and a turn-around jumper from Booker gave the Owls a three-point lead four minutes in, 8-5. Under two minutes to go, UHSP hit back-to-back three-pointers to take a six-point lead, 16-10. Thomas hit the final three of the quarter to cut the Owls' deficit to three, 16-13.
 
UHSP pushed a 6-0 run to start the second quarter, holding the Owls from scoring through the first six minutes. A fast break jumper from Booker broke the Owls' silence, and a three from Thomas ignited an 8-0 run to close out the half with the Owls trailing by just one, 24-23.
 
The Owls continued their run at the start of the second half, taking the lead after Hazell scored the first five points of the half, 28-24. The Owls continued to hold the lead, staying one possession ahead. With 4:12 on the clock, UHSP took back the lead with a three, and two free throws from UHSP put them up by four heading into the final quarter, 40-36.
 
Two jumpers from Hazell and a bucket from Olivia Hanks to start the final quarter evened the score at 42-42 with 8:29 on the clock. UHSP answered with a 10-0 run through the next six minutes. A jumper from Taneigh Boyd stopped the run, but UHSP closed out the game with six points to end with a 14-point Owls' loss, 58-44.
