Owls Improve to 7-1 in Anderson Arena with Win Over CBC

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team returned to their winning ways as they topped Central Baptist College Thursday evening, 67-61. The Owls improve to 10-9 on the season with a 4-1 conference mark, improving to 7-1 in Anderson Arena. The team also snapped CBC's four-game winning streak and handed them their first conference loss.
 
Makenzie Fessler posted a double-double with a floor-high 16 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Owls finish out their home stretch on Saturday, Jan. 15, with a 3 p.m. tip-off versus Lyon College (Ark.).

Game Highlights
A jumper from Spencer Yoggerst and four points from Makenzie Fessler put the Owls up by five three minutes into the game, 8-3. A dunk and an and-one from Yoggerst again put the Owls up by five with 15:57 on the clock, but CBC pushed a 6-0 run to take a one-point lead, 12-11.
 
A long jumper from Fessler put the Owls back on top with 12:56 on the clock, but the teams traded the lead through the rest of the half. Neither team went up by more than one possession.
 
Nathan Schwartze hit a three with 30 seconds to play to give the Owls a two-point lead heading into halftime, 31-29.
 
CBC opened the second half with a 7-0 run to take up a five-point lead, 36-31.
 
The Owls responded with a 7-0 run of their own to go back up by two four minutes in, 38-36. Five of the points came from Yoggerst.
 
CBC evened the score three times and took the lead once, but the Owls answered the last tie with two Darius Yohe dunks and a drive from Schwartze to go up by six just over halfway through the second half, 52-46.
 
Andrew Nett added five points and Yohe added two to the Owls' 7-0 run spanning 1:22 to give the Owls an 11-point lead with 7:20 on the clock, 59-48.
 
With 1:34 to play, CBC had cut the game to just two points following a 10-1 run spanning four minutes.
 
A turn-around jumper from Fessler gave the Owls a four-point lead with one-minute remaining, and CBC resorted to fouling to stop the clock. Mike Robinson went 2-for-2 from the foul line as the Owls' defense held CBC from scoring again, ending with a 67-61 win.
