Men's Basketball Tops Lyon, 69-63

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods men's basketball team defeated Lyon College (Ark.) Saturday afternoon, 69-63. The Owls improve to 11-9 on the season with a 5-1 conference mark and an 8-1 home record.
 
The Owls next travel to Hannibal-LaGrange University on Thursday, Jan. 20, for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
 
By The Numbers
17 – Spencer Yoggerst posted a team-high 17 points, all coming in the second half (4-9 FG, 2-2 3FG, 7-8 FT).
15 – Nathan Schwartze hit three three-pointers and three field goals for 15 points.
12 – Andrew Nett added 12 points as he drained four three-pointers in the first half.
10 – Darius Yohe pulled down a team-high 10 boards.
9 – Spencer Yoggerst came up one rebound short of a double-double, and Darius Yohe came up one point shy of a double-double.
5 – Nathan Schwartze recorded five assists.
 
Game Highlights
Lyon put up an early 6-0 lead through the first three minutes until Andrew Nett hit a three to get the Owls on the board.
 
Nathan Schwartze followed with a layup, and a jumper from Jared Crutcher put the Owls up by one with 14:48 on the clock, 7-6.
 
The lead bounced between the two teams through the rest of the half with nine lead changes and four ties.
 
A three from Andrew Nett evened the score with 1:48 on the clock, and neither team was able to score again, sending the game into halftime with the score sitting at 28-28.
 
The second half started off in the same fashion it left off with, seeing five lead changes and two ties in the first six minutes.
 
A 10-0 run featuring eight points from Schwartze put the Owls up by seven with 12:22 on the clock, giving the Owls a seven-point lead, 46-39.
 
Back-to-back three-pointers from Mike Robinson and Spencer Yoggerst put the Owls up by 12 with nine minutes to play, 55-43.
 
Lyon cut the game to single digits and managed to bring the game within four with just under two minutes to play, 62-58.
 
Darius Yohe hit back-to-back jumpers to push the Owls' lead to eight with a minute to play, 66-58.
 
Two good free throws from Yoggerst and one free throw from Yohe extended the Owls' lead to nine with 16 seconds to play. Lyon hit the final points of the game to end it with a 69-63 Owls' win.
