CONWAY, Ark. – The William Woods University women's soccer team opened conference play with a 3-1 victory over Central Baptist this Saturday afternoon. The Owls improve to 4-6-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
 
The Owls started off aggressive as Sam Poehlmann quickly found the back on the net with only two minutes into the game assisted by Lauren Helmert.
 
However, CBC answered with a goal to tie the game 1-1 with 13 minutes on the clock.
 
Sydney Balducci scored the final goal of the first period to take the lead once again.
 
The Owls went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
 
Poehlmann netted her second goal of the day to give the Owls a 2-1 win.
 
Michyla Handley was credited with the win on goal. She played 90 minutes in between posts and made eight stops with five coming in the second period.
 
The Owls outshot CBC, 11-9.
 
The Owls return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 as they host University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy at Firley Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
