Owls Top UHSP in Thrilling Fourth Set

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team grabbed their fifth consecutive conference win Wednesday evening with a 3-1 win over University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy.
 
After going down 1-0 to start the match, they bounced back to even the score. They dominated UHSP in set three, and set four went to extra points to finally give the Owls the 3-1 win. The set scores were 19-25, 25-21, 25-12, 34-32.
 
The Owls close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with their final two non-conference matches on Friday and Saturday. They host Clarke on Friday at 5 p.m. and Mount Mercy on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

How It Happened
After taking a 1-0 deficit, the Owls pushed a 6-1 lead to start the second set. UHSP evened the score, but the Owls managed to stay one step ahead. A block from Lanie Lowry and Rhakala Blackmon started a 3-0 run to take a 21-18 lead, and kills from Riley Alton and Paige Lamm ended the set with a 25-21 win.
 
A 12-1 early run put the Owls up 13-5 in set three. The Owls continued to sail past UHSP, and a kill from Ella Lewis ended the set. The 25-12 win put the Owls up 2-1 on the match.
 
UHSP took up a five-point lead early in set four and extended that lead to seven midway through, 16-9. An ace from Ryleigh McBurney evened the score at 19-19, and a kill from Lamm put the Owls at set point, 24-23. The two teams traded points, extending the match to extra points. With the match tied at 32-32, the Owls scored the final two points with kills from Lowry and Lauren Adams.
