Owls Sweep Stephens in Senior Day Regular Season Finale

FULTON, Mo. ­– The William Woods University volleyball team swept Stephens College Saturday morning to finish out their regular season with an 8-2 conference record, securing the three seed in the American Midwest Conference. Prior to the game, the Owls' three seniors were recognized.
 
The Owls finish regular season with a 14-16 overall mark. The Owls won 25-15, 25-20, 25-13.
 
The team will enter the AMC Championship as the three-seed and will host the six-seed on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. The six-seed is TBD.
 
By The Numbers
.563 – Lauren Adams recorded a floor-high 10 kills as she hit .563 (10-1-16).
16 – Tori Rosemann dug up a team-high 16 Stephens' attacks.
12 – The Owls finished the three-set match with 12 blocks.
11 – Erin Treis assisted in 11 Owls' kills.
8 – Lanie Lowry recorded eight kills.
 
How It Happened
The Owls blasted an 11-1 run early in the set to take up a powerful 12-4 lead. Stephens managed to close the gap to four, but a 4-0 Owls' run with kills from Kassidy Phillips and Reanna Dodge followed by two Stephens' ball handling errors gave the Owls an eight-point lead, 18-10. A Stephens' service error ended the set with a 25-15 Owls' win.
 
A kill from Lanie Lowry, back-to-back aces from Phillips and a block from Lowry and Lauren Adams put the Owls up 7-3 early in set two. An ace from Ally Konarzewski finished a 7-2 run to give the Owls a 14-6 lead, and an ace from Ryleigh McBurney doubled Stephens' score, 18-9. Stephens pushed their way back in, but a block from Lowry and Adams ended the set with a 25-20 win.
 
The two teams went back-and-forth in the beginning of set three, and Stephens held the lead three times. A kill from Paige Lamm began a 7-0 Owls' run to give them a 13-7 lead, and a few points later, the Owls completed an 8-2 run to close out the match with a 25-13 set three win.
