Baseball Drops Two Tough Games in Season Opener

WICHITA, Ks. – The William Woods University baseball team dropped two tough losses to Friends University this Friday afternoon. The 6-5 and 8-5 losses bring the Owls to 0-2 on the season.
 
The Owls finish out the four-game series with Friends University on Saturday, Feb. 12. with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
 
Game One
The Falcons scored a homer to the right field in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead.
 
In the top of the fourth, Jordan Smith hit a homerun to the right field and Easton Wallace also hit a homerun to the center field to take a 2-1 lead for the Owls.
 
In the sixth inning, Isaiah Gibbs scored the Owls third run on Easton Wallace's RBI single to center field. They added two more in the sixth on Jake Flaming's two-run homer to extend the lead to 5-1.
 
The Falcons scored five in the eighth inning to grab a 6-5 win.
 
The Falcons outhit the Owls, 10-5. Easton Wallace recorded two hits.
 
Jared Stephens started on the mound and pitched six innings. He struck out six while allowing eight hits and one run. Andrew Fyffe allowed one hit and three runs.
 
Jackson Truesdell (0-1) was credited with the loss on the mound. He pitched 0.2 innings and struck out three while allowing one hit two runs.
 
Game Two
The Falcons scored two in the second inning to take the lead early in the game.
 
Alex Wimer scored the Owls first run on Jordan Smith double, in the top of the third.
 
In the bottom of the third, the Falcons scored two more after two homer, 5-1.
 
In the top of the fifth, Smith hit a 3 RBI homer to right field to score Jack Niggemeier and Wimer. Following a triple to center field from Isaiah Gibbs, he scored off Zach Krause RBI to tie the game 5-5.
 
The Falcons scored the final three runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth to grab another their second win over the Owls, 8-5.
 
Smith recorded four RBIs and two hits.
 
Brock Glavey (0-1) started on the mound and was credited with the loss. He struck out one while allowing 10 hits and eight runs. Kaleb Haley pitched one inning and stuck out one.
