Owls Fall to MBU

FULTON, Mo. -  The William Woods University women's basketball team fell to Missouri Baptist University this afternoon, 62-48. The loss drops the Owls to 9-18 overall and 6-11 in AMC play.
 
The Owls will host tomorrow Hannibal-LaGrange at Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
20 – Kasey Hazell led the floor with 20 points. She hit 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-5 from the foul line.
16 – Sydney Booker pulled down 16 boards with 13 coming from the defensive end, she was one point away from another double-double.
9 – Natalie Thomas and Sydney Booker each recorded nine points. Kasey Hazell grabbed nine rebounds, she was one board away from a double-double.
5 – Katie Keilholz scored five points.
4 – Jheda Kennedy dished in four assists.
 
Game Highlights
MBU started the game with a 7-2 run with 6:49 left on the first quarter, but the Owls responded with a layup and one free-throw by Kasey Hazell giving MBU only a two-point lead, 7-5. MBU answered with a 7-0 run with 1:27 left but Hazell hit a jumper assisted by Katie Keilholz to end the first quarter trailing by seven, 14-7.
 
MBU hit a jumper in the paint to increase their lead to 12 with 6:26 left, 21-9. A three by Jheda Kennedy followed by a jumper from Taneigh Boyd helped the Owls trail by five with 2:39 left, 24-19. MBU answered with three jumpers in a row to maintain the lead, 30-20. The game went into halftime with MBU leading 31-22. 
 
MBU had a 11-4 run in the beginning of the third quarter to take a 16-point lead, 42-26. The Owls scored the next six points with a three from Natalie Thomas, a jumper and one free-throw from Sydney Booker with 3:37 left, 42-32. MBU ended the third quarter with a 15-point lead, 50-35.
 
The Owls outscored MBU in the fourth quarter, 13-12, but MBU was superior as they ended the game with a 62-48 win over the Owls.
