Owls Close Regular Season with a Win

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team defeated Hannibal-LaGrange this afternoon closing regular season with a 57-39 win. The Owls improve to 10-18 overall and 7-11 in conference play and will be going into the AMC Championships as the sixth seed.
 
Next for the Owls is the quarterfinals of the AMC Championship where they will travel to the third seed, Missouri Baptist on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
15 – Katie Keilholz scored 15 points going 5-for-9 from the 3PT and 5-for-9 from the field.
10 – Kiyanna Rodgers added 10 points. Jheda Kennedy also had 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
9 – Sydney Booker pulled down nine boards.
8 – Kasey Hazell scored eight points. She went 3-for-4 from the field.
 
Game Highlights
The Trojans had a 10-2 run with 4:57 left. Sydney Booker hit a jumper from the paint assisted by Jheda Jennedy but the trojans hit a jumper back to maintain the lead. Katie Keilholz added a three-pointer from Kasey Hazell who then scored the last two points from first quarter. The Owls ended the first quarter trailing by five, 14-9.
 
The Owls ignited a 12-0 run to take the lead by seven with 6:30 left, 21-14. The trojans responded with two jumpers but Kasey Hazell hit a layup in the pain to keep the lead, 23-18. Keilholz scored the final points of the second quarter with a three to go into halftime leading 26-20.
 
The owls had a 13-4 run in the beginning of the third quarter with two threes from Keilholz, one from Natalie Thomas, two free-throws from Booker, and a bucket from Rodgers. Once again, Keilholz scored the final points of the quarter with a three to go into the final quarter with a 44-30 lead.
 
The trojans hit a jumper to start the quarter but Amaya Keeling responded with a bucket, 46-32 with 9:00 left. The trojans hit a field-goal but the Owls added five more points from Hazell and Kennedy to grab a 17-point lead with 6:55 left. Both teams remained scoreless until Rodgers and Keeling both hit threes to take on a 23-point lead, 57-34. The trojans scored the final four points on the game, 57-39.
