FAYETTE, Mo. - Another day, another title for Katie French. She won both discus and hammer at the CMU Open Saturday afternoon, where the William Woods University women's track and field team opened their outdoor season. Alongside French, Harley Nale won the 800-Meter Run, Mary Grover won the 3000 Meter Run, and Susan Moman who competed in her first outdoor meet as an Owl captured the javelin title.

Joining the Owls this afternoon were teams from NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NJCAA, and the NAIA members were Central Methodist, Columbia, Culver-Stockton, Evangel, Hannibal-LaGrange, Missouri Baptist, and Missouri Valley.
 
Several athletes competed in their first outdoor meet and several athletes also set personal records.
 
Competing in the long jump, Nia Hawkins set a new PR with a 5.16-meter jump that placed her fourth, moving her to the third spot in the WWU Record Book. She also finished fifth in the triple jump with a 10.33-meter jump.
 
French earned both discus and hammer titles. She tossed a 40.57-meter throw in the discus, and a 42.91-meter throw in the hammer.
 
In the javelin, Moman finished in first with a 37.00-meter throw placing her third in the WWU Record Book. Natalie Thomas placed fourth with a 34.60-meter throw.
 
Competing in the 1500-Meter Run, Nale's second-place finish set a new PR with a time of 5:06.43. Coming right behind her in third-place was Ellie Dimond who also set a new PR with a 5:06.96 time. Mekayla Gibson finished in fifth-place with a time of 5:10.33.
 
Nale grabbed the title in the 800-Meter Run with a time of 2:29.76.
 
In the 3000 Meter Run, Mary Grover took the title with a time of 11:22.08 which was also a PR for her.
 
The 4x800 Meter Relay team was comprised of Ellie Dimond, Mekayla Gibson, Emma Clifford, and Harley Nale. The team finished third with a 10:30.66 time.
 
Next up for the Owls will be a trip to Rolla, Mo. where they will compete at the Miner Invite on Saturday, Mar. 26 at 11 a.m.
