Owls Use Powerful Sixth Inning to Upset CBC

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team used a powerful six-run sixth inning to upset Central Baptist College in the team's first game of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championship. The 7-1 win brings the Owls to 21-21 on the season.
 
The Owls now face two-seeded Missouri Baptist on Wednesday, May 4, at 12 p.m. The games will be back at the original site, Antimi Softball Complex, and will play the game on the black field.

A single by Mia Santos to center field brought home Annika Ramon to even the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning.
 
The Owls powered six runs in the sixth inning to take the 7-1 lead that eventually ended the game. Celeste Sermeno led off the inning with a single to left field. Sydney Wilbeck pinch ran for her and moved to second on Alexis Hassler's single. They both moved into scoring position on Taylor Bell's single to left field. The Owls scored on the next six plays. A Devyn Burton walk brought Wilbeck home for the go-ahead run, Ally Mahoney's single to center scored pinch runner Jessica Keilholz, Ramon scored pinch runner Jaden Swift on a fielder's choice, Emma Taylor's single to right field brought home Burton, Mahoney was walked in, and Ramon scored on a fielding error by second.
