COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team defeated Missouri Baptist University 6-3 to advance to the championship day of the American Midwest Conference Championship. The Owls earned the conference's second automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship (Columbia earned the first as they won regular season).
The Owls will play Columbia College Friday starting at 12 p.m. at Battle High School. Since neither team has lost a game yet in the tournament, the two teams play each other again at 2:30 p.m. for the Championship game. The "if necessary" game will be on Saturday, May 7, if both teams grab a win on Friday.

Ally Mahoney led off with a double, advanced on a wild pitch and scored the go-ahead run on Ramon's RBI single up the middle. Ramon then scored along with
Emma Taylor on
Arianna Donovan's two RBI single to right center.
Celeste Sermeno scored the final run of the inning on Burton's RBI single to short stop.
In the bottom of the fifth, Taylor was called out at home but the call was reversed for obstruction at the plate to put the Owls up 6-1.
MBU added two runs in the sixth inning to cut the game to 6-3, but the Owls allowed just one hit in the final inning to end the game with a win.
