ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University women's track and field team grabbed three first place finishes and seven top five finishes at day one of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championships.
The Owls currently sit in second place with 62 points. They trail Columbia who holds 84.50 points.
The team returns for the second day two of the AMC Championships starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Natalie Thomas (javelin),
Katie French (hammer) and
Alicia Engelbrecht (10,000-meter run) each won their event, earning First Team All-AMC honors.
Nia Hawkins (triple jump) and the 4x800-meter relay team earned Third Team All-AMC honors.
Throws
The Owls hosted the javelin and hammer throw at the Backer Sports Complex in Fulton, Mo.
Katie French won the hammer throw with her PR throw of 48.28-meters. She was .33 cm shy of a NAIA standard and moved up to third in the WWU record book.
Natalie Thomas placed first in the javelin with a 36.11-meter throw.
Susan Moman placed sixth with a 31.58-meter throw, and
Alexis Clifford finished seventh with a 31.31-meter throw.
Jumps
Nia Hawkins placed third in the triple jump, setting a new PR with her 10.52-meter jump.
Camille Schroeder also PR'd with her 9.45-meter, seventh place jump.
In the high jump,
Emma Clifford placed sixth with her PR 1.35-meter jump.
Susan Moman placed seventh with a 1.30-meter jump.
Track
Alicia Engelbrecht won the 10,000-meter run with a 41:04.53 time.
Mary Grover placed fourth in her first time running, finishing in 43:14.86.
Kimi Putnam placed eighth and
Maddie Mendell placed ninth.
The 4x800-meter relay team, comprised of
Harley Nale,
Emma Clifford,
Faith Gerling and
Ellie Dimond, placed third with a time of 10:13.34, putting them fourth in the WWU record book.
In the 100-meter dash semifinals,
Nia Hawkins qualified for the finals with her 12.83 time. It was a PR by ½ second and tied for fourth in the WWU record book.
Hawkins also PR'd and qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash, placing seventh with a 27.61 time.
Kristan Wilson placed eighth with a 27.83 time, qualifying for the finals and PRing.
