FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team opened their season with a draw at NCAA Division III Wesminster College Wednesday evening, 2-2. The team moves to 0-0-1 on the season.
*According to new NAIA and NCAA rules, overtime has been eliminated during the regular season.*
After a shot by Westminster saved by
Iker Gonzalez with only 20 seconds on the clock,
Sam Allen scored the first goal for the Owls assisted by
Florian Senst.
With 6:27 on the clock,
Emilio Ruiz extended the lead for the Owls, 2-0.
Westminster attempted three more shots on goal that failed until they found the back of the next, 2-1, with 17:44 on the first period. Westminster scored on more goal with 38:03 on the clock to tie the game 2-2.
The Owls had on more shot on goal but it went too high ending the first period tied 2-2.
Both teams remained scoreless on the second half to end the game 2-2.
The Owls outshot Westminster, 15-11.
The Owls return to action at Graceland University (Iowa) on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 3:30 p.m.
