Owls Earn First Win of 2022 Season Over NCAA DIII University of the Ozarks

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer took down NCAA DIII University of the Ozarks Saturday afternoon, 3-1. The Owls improve to 1-4-1 on the season.
 
After a free kick taken by Mackenzie Boyle that bounced off the post, Sydney Balducci did not waste the opportunity and scored the for the Owls, 1-0.
 
Cindy Gonzalez crossed the ball from near the corner to Sam Poehlmann who took a touch into the box and shot out of reach of the goalkeeper to net one more for the Owls, 2-0.
 
The Owls went into halftime leading the Eagles, 2-0.
 
Eight minutes into the second period, Lydia Sims who was facing away from the goal took a header backwards into the net that was assisted from a high cross by Poehmann.
 
Michyla Handley was credited with the win on goal. She played 90 minutes in between posts and made eight stops during the game with five coming from the second period.
 
The Owls Outshot the Eagles, 22-16.
 
The Owls host Saint Mary (Kan.) on Wednesday, Sep. 14. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
