Owls Drop Two at Labor Day Classic

BELLEVUE, Neb. – The William Woods University volleyball team dropped two matches at the 2022 Labor Day Classic hosted by Bellevue University. The Owls fell 3-0 to both RV Cornerstone University (Mich.) and RV Westmont College (Calif.).
 
The Owls continue the classic on Saturday with two more matches. They face Oklahoma City University at 1 p.m. followed by a 5 p.m. match versus Embry-Riddle University (Fla.).

The Owls fell 25-21, 25-23, 25-12.

12 – Tori Rosemann led the Owls with 12 digs. Erin Treis finished with 11.
11 – Madi Bruce assisted 11 kills.
10 – Kassidy Phillips led the team with 10 kills, and the Owls posted 10 blocks as a team.
7 – Lauren Adams recorded seven blocks.
 
Match Highlights
The Owls came back from an 11-3 deficit in set one to bring them within one point following a 5-0 run.
 
Lauren Adams and the Owls kicked off set two with a 3-0 run. Adams had her hand in all three points, recorded a kill to get on the board with blocks for the next two points. A 4-0 run gave the Owls a 12-7 lead, but CU pushed a 10-1 run to take an 18-14 lead. A late 4-0 run from the Owls with four consecutive kills gave the Owls a two-point lead, 22-20. CU ended the set with three unanswered kills.
 
Set three was close until CU struck a 12-2 run to close out the match.

The Owls fell 25-18, 25-21, 25-16.

Match Highlights
Set one was back-and-forth until Westmont put together a mid-set 7-0 run that the Owls were unable to recover from.
 
The Owls had a rough start to set two, but they slowly crept their way back into the set. With three kills from three different players, the Owls evened the score at 17 all. A late set 3-0 run from Westmont brought the set to set point, and the Owls were unable to climb back into the set.
 
The Owls and Westmont were close in set three until Westmont put together a 9-0 run to bring the set to 23-13.
