LAS VEGAS, Nev. - After getting familiar with the USBC Tournament Bowling Plaza on Monday and Tuesday, William Woods posted solid finishes on both sides of the ledger in the 2023 Collegiate Shootout. The Woods men posted a 947.5 average through the first six games and climbed two spots in Baker play to finish 25th in the 48-team field, while the women's team fired a 845.33 average through team play then moved up two spots in Baker play to finish 18th in a 33-team field. The Owls missed a repeat of their GCLVI placement by just 20 pins on the women's side, as Hastings College finished with 7,822 pins to 7,802 for WWU.
Despite a consistent performance on the men's side, with all six individual games seeing team scores over 900, the Owls slipped out of the top 20 as lane conditions at the north end of the arena held up slightly better than on the south end on day one.
Patrick Schultz (66th; 1,190 pins/198.3 avg) and
Drake Bazzy (73rd; 1,175 pins/195.8 avg) bowled all six individual games for Woods, with both earning finishes inside the top 100 of the 408-bowler field.
Jonathan Rosado posted the highest average for WWU through team play, hitting a 199.3 pace over four games.
The women's team was able to fight off changing lane conditions slightly better than the men's team, closing out day one with its best team score. Woods moved up two spots - from 22nd to 20th - on the strength of a 908 total in game six, then came out strong in Baker play on day two. The Owls leapfrogged both Baker University and Waldorf University (16th and 19th after day one, respectively) in Baker play, then ran out of time chasing Hastings, as Woods carried a 170.63 average through its Baker games to a 157.88 pace for the Broncos.
Hailey Triske (43rd; 1,072 pins/178.67 avg) and
Trista Rauma (44th; 1,051 pins/175.17 avg) bowled all six individual games for WWU and finished back-to-back in the 244-bowler field.
Savannah Edmonds posted the highest average for the women's squad, hitting a 207.67 pace over her three games on day one.
Woods heads back to the Chicagoland area to start the spring semester, competing in the Kegel/ISBPA Collegiate Classic on Jan. 13 and 14.
