Owls Advance to Day Two with Short-Game Win Over Lyon

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team went 1-1 on day one of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championship. The five-seeded Owls opened the tournament with a 4-1 loss to four-seeded Columbia College. They immediately turned around to defeat eight-seeded Lyon in the first elimination game of the tournament. The Owls won 12-4 in six innings to advance to the next day of play.
 
 

The Owls face the loser of the Missouri Baptist vs. Central Baptist game on Wednesday at 2 p.m. on field one. The MBU vs. CBC game takes place at noon Wednesday.

Columbia def. William Woods, 4-1
  • The Owls plated their only run in the top of the seventh.
  • Sydney Wilbeck went 3-3 from the plate.
  • Ally Mahoney recorded the Owls' only other hit and plated the team's only run.
  • Pitching: Jessica Keilholz (9-12) pitched the complete game and was credited with the loss. She struck out six while allowing just one earned run and five hits.

  • The Owls put up 12 runs on 14 hits through six innings of play.
  • The team scored eight runs in the fifth inning alone.
  • The Owls finished the day with seven doubles – Mariah Prince (2), Iliana Manzano, Ally Mahoney, Jessica Keilholz and Taylor Bell.
  • The Owls had five stolen bases with Crystal Ruden and Mia Santos stealing two a piece.
  • Five batters had two hits.
  • Iliana Mazano went 2-3 from the plate with three RBI and one run scored.
  • Pitching: Jessica Keilholz (10-12) pitched 3.2 innings for the win. She faced 17 batters, allowed one earned run and struck out one. Sarah Randermann started on the mound and went 2.1 innings with three strikeouts.
