FULTON, Mo. - With the planned debut of Football and Flag Football during the 2024-25 academic year, William Woods University has partnered with
Mammoth to renovate Firley Soccer Field, installing artificial turf in the venue to support men's and women's soccer alongside football in the fall and flag football in the spring.
Â
"As we embark on this historic expansion of WWU Athletics, partnering with Mammoth was a clear choice from the beginning," said Steve Wilson, Director of Athletics for William Woods University. "With an extensive track record of successful installations across all levels of college athletics and the intangibles they bring to the table with their integrated creative services team, Mammoth was simply on a different level than other firms in our search."
Â
Weather permitting, construction on the field will begin in late January with excavation and leveling to prepare the site. The field is projected to be completed by June 2024.
Â
"Today is another milestone in the groundbreaking new direction for William Woods athletics," said Dr. Jeremy Moreland, President of William Woods University. "The renovation of Firley Soccer Field for football, plus important future investments in other WWU athletic facilities, is an exciting next step for the university. We are proud to welcome Mammoth and their impressive credentials throughout professional and collegiate sports as a new partner in our ongoing expansion."
"A field is never just a field. For William Woods it means more competition on a surface that's playable no matter how rainy it's been," said Mammoth President Jake Farrant. "We're honored to help them level up their field to begin a whole new legacy for the school and its student-athletes."
The field layout is designed to recognize and celebrate the groundwork laid by WWU Soccer in making this facility possible, with the field lines for soccer laid out in orange and running uninterrupted as much as possible through the field. Where included, branding elements are constrained within the boundary markings for soccer. The "Owls" script in both end zones is contained entirely within the six-yard box for soccer, with the "WWU" word mark at the 50-yard line similarly contained by the midfield circle.
Â
"Mammoth is a firm committed to quality and an enhanced experience, especially for the William Woods students who will benefit from this field," said Dr. Ted Blashak, Senior Vice President and Chief Student Experience Officer. "In our search for a partner that would provide a field that can accommodate our unprecedented growth, Mammoth was quickly identified and proved to our team the desire to produce a product that would give our students a premier, safe playing surface that would serve multiple athletic programs. Mammoth has approached this product as a partner, and that's especially important as a university with high-level student experience at the forefront."
Â
With the addition of football and flag football, WWU Athletics will celebrate its 50th year of intercollegiate athletics with full sponsorship of 25 programs that compete for championships within the NAIA.
Â
Mammoth builds fields and facilities for teams in the NFL, Big 10, SEC, Big 12, MIAA, NSIC, NAIA, GLVC, KCAC, Heart of America, and Gulf South conferences, along with thousands of high schools. Since its founding in 2008, it has expanded and acquired services including golf course construction, concrete products and supply, general construction, and architecture and engineering design. In 2021 it acquired a full-service marketing and creative services firm.
