KANSAS CITY, Mo. — William Woods University's
Omar Murillo was named an NAIA All-American, selected as a third-team defender, announced the association Monday. Murillo became the Owls' first All-American in five years, with Billy Nzojyibwami picked as an honorable mention forward in 2019.
Playing a team-high 1,764 minutes over 20 games (all starts) for an average of 88.2 minutes per game, Murillo posted 13 shots (nine on goal) and five goals (one game-winning goal and one penalty-kick goal) for a total of 10 points. A senior from Panama City, Panama, Murillo also earned his third straight first-team All-American Midwest Conference honor, AMC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 8 (Oct. 14) and academic All-AMC this season.
The NAIA All-America committee consists of the NAIA-Men's Soccer Coaches Association Executive Committee, the National Championship Games Committee and four men's soccer coaches. Each of the three All-America teams is comprised of a goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, three forwards and one at-large position.
William Woods finished the season with an 11-3-6 overall record and a 6-0-2 record in the AMC. The Owls shut out every AMC regular-season opponent and won their first-ever outright AMC regular-season title. Making it to the AMC Tournament semifinals, (RV)/No. 1 seed WWU fell 1-0 to eventual tournament runner-up No. 23/No. 4 seed Columbia College 1-0 at home.
