Hannibal, Mo.- William Woods completed the regular season sweep against Hannibal-LaGrange with a 60-37 victory on Thursday night.
After the Trojans took a 7-6 lead with 5:13 left in the 1
st quarter the Owls would go on a 7-2 run after a
Sydney Booker layup to take a 13-8 lead after one quarter. Woods would build on their five-point lead after a 16-7 run capped off by a
Katie Keilholz three pointer to go up 29-15 with 3:47 remaining in the second quarter. A
Jersee Wren layup with :36 left in the half gave the Owls their largest lead of the half up by 19, 35-16. HLGU would knock down two free throws with :02 left as WWU took a 35-18 lead into halftime. Woods would outscore HLGU 22-10 in the quarter shooting 66% from the field.
The Owls would build on their halftime lead going up by 20 points after a
Ruthie Brown free throw with 6:22 left in the quarter, a 40-20 scoreline. WWU would keep the Trojans at a safe distance for the remainder of the quarter taking a 46-30 lead into the fourth. Back-to-back baskets by
Natalie Thomas and
Sydney Booker and a free throw from
Madison Adolphsen pushed the Owl lead to 24 at 58-34 with 2:54 to play. HLGU would only get as close as 23 points in the final moments as WWU picked up the win 60-37.Â
The Owls outrebounded the Trojans 39-25 and picked up 19 points off 21 HLGU turnovers.Â
Sydney Booker picked up another double double as she scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.Â
Natalie Thomas was also in double digits, scoring 11 points and had seven rebounds. The Owls improve to 10-8 (4-5 AMC)
William Woods is back in action on Saturday as they host Missouri Baptist in Fulton at 1pm.
