Owls Bow Out Of AMC Tournament Against Stephens

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Despite matching baker's dozens from Sydney Booker and Peyton Dearing, no. 7 seed William Woods (13-15) bowed out of the AMC Women's Basketball Tournament presented by Tandem HR with an 87-48 loss to no. 2 seed Stephens College (22-6) on Friday afternoon.

The contest got off to a sloppy start, with Stephens turning the ball over twice and Woods once. Neither team was able to find the bucket until the 7:30 mark, as Arthel Massaquoi knocked in a layup to put Stephens up 2-0. Woods struggled through the opening 10:00, unable to score until six minutes into the contest and trailing 20-4 at the end of the quarter.

WWU found its shooting range briefly in the second, hitting 6-of-9 from the floor in the quarter, but the Owls weren't able to close the gap. Booker had a game-high seven points in the second, but Woods trailed 41-23 at halftime and never seriously challenged the Stars in the second half.

The Owls hit at a 30 percent clip (15-50) from the floor, shooting 6-19 (31.6 percent) from long range and 66.7 percent (12-18) from the free throw stripe. Stephens shot 33-68 (48.5 percent) and 9-26 (34.6 percent) respectively from the floor, with a 41.4 percent (12-29) mark from the free throw line.

William Woods finishes its season with a 13-15 record.
