Goals By Lockhert, Schrader Send WWU Into Conference Play With 2-1 Win Over D-III Foe

Box Score CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - In a match that was pushed back twice due to unseasonably warm temperatures, William Woods (4-3-3) turned in a dominant performance in its final non-conference tuneup, winning 2-1 over NCAA Division III foe University of the Ozarks (2-2-1) on Saturday.

"I'm proud of our team to get through a long day of delays because of the heat," said head coach Lauren Robb. "We dominated the first half and put a couple of good goals in. Now we will shift focus to conference and get ready for the next challenge."

Zoe Lockhert continued her goal-scoring ways for Woods, picking up her fourth of the season in the 17th minute, with Hannah Loethen credited with the assist.

The Owls doubled their lead in the 27th minute, with opposite ends of the seniority table making connections as grad transfer Maddy Schrader collected a pass from true freshman Giselle Soltero and knocked in her second goal of the year.

University of the Ozarks was able to nick one goal back in the 49th minute, but Woods kept the offensive pressure up, outshooting the Eagles 11-3 in the second half and 17-6 overall.

The Owls open their final season of American Midwest Conference action on Saturday, Sept. 28 with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Harris-Stowe State University.
