Owls Fall to Eagles in Straight Sets Despite Late Rally

FAYETTE, Mo – William Woods University (17-8, 8-5 Heart) hit the road once again for another Heart of America match-up with Central Methodist University (17-6, 9-4 Heart), looking to continue their momentum.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead over the Owls, looking to reverse the roles from their last contest. With the Central Methodist getting out to a quick 22-9 lead in the first set, Woods was forced to fight early, and they did just that as they would go on a 14-2 run to bring the score within one. Despite the last-ditch effort from Woods, the Eagles would walk away with the 25-23 win in set one over the Owls.

Central Methodist would keep the pressure on, as they got out to a quick lead in the second set and did not look back, holding their steady lead throughout the set. With the Eagles firing on all cylinders, they would defeat the Owls once again, 25-16, and gain a 2-0 lead in the match.

With their backs against the wall, Woods was not going to go easy, as they would interchange leads with the Eagles throughout the third set. The Owls were led by Pamela Durazo, who got 6 kills, and Luciana Pavia Pereira, who got 4 kills in their efforts to get to a fourth set. Unfortunately, the Eagles proved too much for the Owls in the end, dropping the set 25-21 and ultimately the match 3-0.

The Owls look to bounce back as they head to Baldwin City, Kan, to take on the Baker Wildcats for the Heart Game of the Week. First serve in the set for 7 p.m. on October 24th
