KANSAS CITY, Mo.- With the cool blows of winter rolling across the state, William Woods women's wrestling is in full swing. This weekend, the Owls took on the AU Eagles Women's Open hosted by Avila University.
WWU saw one individual champion in Teani Medeiros-Maielua who took home top honors in the 138-weight class. Teani, a standout on the mat for the Owls since the program's inception, won three consecutive matches to win the championship bout 4-0 against a familiar face from Missouri Baptist.
Woods also saw success from freshman Brooklyn Jackman, junior Abby Piper, and sophomore Stevie Lupo. Jackman secured a sixth-place finish after a narrow loss in the semifinal match placed her on the other side of the bracket. Piper finished fifth in the 185-weight class, falling to the eventual champion in the semifinals. Lupo, a sophomore who did not have a plethora of college experience coming into the contest, secured the Owls second highest finish with a fourth-place nod in the 131-weight class.
