PARKVILLE, Mo. – The men's basketball team hit the road Saturday afternoon and dropped a tough match-up to the Park Pirates (6-6, 4-1), 88-72.
William Woods (4-7, 2-4 Heart) got off to a quick start against the Pirates, but would quickly see that lead go as each team traded leads through the first half.
Jacob LaBounty led the owls in the first half with 10 points and a block and a steal apiece.
With the Pirates holding a commanding lead for most of the half, the Owls would keep fighting and keep it close heading into the half, down 42-36.
Out of the half, the Pirates' offense would start firing on all cylinders, gaining their commanding lead and not letting it go. With the Owls' offense struggling,
Mark Onyejekwe would shine for 14 points, leading the Owls in the comeback attempt in the second half. Despite the fight in the second half, the Owls would fall to the Park Pirates 88-72.
Tahki Chievous and
Isaiah Payne would lead the Owls off the bench, combining for 19 points, and
Demarco Buchanan led the boards with 7 rebounds for the Owls.
The Owls are back for a quick turnaround on Monday as they head to UHSP for a makeup game from last Monday. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
