Brumley Remains Unbeaten, (RV) Owls Drop Dual at #6 William Penn

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - (RV) William Woods University (0-9) freshman Mariyah Brumley (207 pounds) remains unbeaten at 9-0, earning her first college dual win. Unfortunately for the Owls, that was their only victory, dropping a 40-5 decision to Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent No. 6 William Penn University (5-5) Tuesday at Penn Activity Center.

"We ran into a healthy William Penn women's squad, and they showed why they are a top team in the country tonight," William Woods wrestling coach Jacob Lorentz said. "We just couldn't get much going offensively as they kind of took it to us. We will learn from it and be better because of it. That's a very senior-oriented group they have, and it showed."

After the Statesmen scored 40 unanswered points to begin the dual, Brumley spoiled WPU grappler Phoebe Burt's Senior Night, pinning her in 38 seconds in the last official bout.

Following the official dual's conclusion, the Owls had three exhibition matchups with the Statesmen. Gretchen Marriott (145) picked up WWU's lone exhibition win, taking a 4-2 decision over Sandra Arellano in the final contest.

Hitting the road to take on another Heart foe, William Woods spars against No. 10 Missouri Valley College (3-5) at 7 p.m. next Tuesday at Burns Athletic Complex in Marshall. When they faced off in the Lindenwood Duals Nov. 17 in St. Charles, the Owls fell 53-7 to the then-No. 8 Vikings.
