DES MOINES, Iowa - Sparring against a couple future and a current conference opponent, Whit Nichols, Easton DeMilia and Elijah Brocksmith picked up wins for the Owls as William Woods University (1-12) fell 52-6 to No. 1 Grand View University (14-0), 40-6 to (RV) Missouri Baptist University (11-5) and 47-6 to Saint Ambrose University (6-5) in the Grand View Duals Saturday at Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center.

"We were undermanned, but I was happy with how we competed," William Woods wrestling coach Jacob Lorentz said. "Small things and experience are our big lessons currently. We are going to rest up and get ready for the conference tourney."

Freshman Nichols (157 pounds) earned a statement victory against a grappler on the top-ranked team in the nation, pinning the Vikings' Devin Weber in 5:29 for The Woods' lone bout win of the matchup.

Following a tough contest against their American Midwest Conference rival Spartans, the Owls wrapped up the day by taking two bouts over the Bees.

Both WWU freshman, DeMilia (125) won by an 11-8 decision over SAU senior Michael Chagnon and Brocksmith (184) prevailed by a 9-4 decision over Anthony Sartori.

The Owls will look to put their best foot forward in their final AMC/Sooner Athletic Conference Championships, which will be hosted by No. 22 Oklahoma City University at 9 a.m. Feb. 22 at Abe Lemons Arena in Oklahoma City.
