FAYETTE, Mo. - William Woods University women's track and field had an impressive showing with one individual and relay first-place display in the CMU Invite, hosted by future conference opponent Central Methodist University from Friday to Saturday at Davis Field & Hairston Track.
Earning the Owls' individual win,
Anna Hart, a freshman who attended Fort Zumwalt South, topped the leaderboard in the 5,000-meter race walk with an outstanding time of 35 minutes and 59.41 seconds.Â
Recording WWU's relay win, the Owls' 4x800-meter team of
Emma Clifford,
Myra Baker,
Kyah Weirich and
Christian Steuck reached the finish line in 10:47.61. On top of that, Woods' 4x100 relay squad of
Rylie Bales,
Jesse Gresham,
De'Prisha Chatman and
Madison Dixon ran a season-best time of 51.84, good enough for fifth place and the 43rd best result in the NAIA this season.
As is the case in most meets, William Woods medaled in long-distance events, and the Owls had two over the weekend in Fayette, with personal record times.
Crystal Ruden took third in the 10k at 43:57.7, and
Kathryn Hirtz, competing in her first collegiate outdoor meet, placed fifth in the 5k at 21:44.41.
On the field side, The Woods'
Lexi Clifford tossed the javelin 32.25 meters (105 feet and 9 inches) to place third.
"I am very proud of all the young ladies who competed this weekend," William Woods track and field assistant coach
Gregory A. Keeler said. "Not only the two winning performances, but so many of the women set personal and season bests today. Anna's win was very exciting and really set the tone for the entire day."
Posting PRs for the Owls were Gresham in the 100 dash (12.99), 200 (27.21) and the long jump (4.76m [15-7½]), Dixon in the 200 (26.40) and 400 (1:03.35),
Amy Schreck in the 1,500 (5:26.91) and
Sydney Grubb in the 800 (2:43.28).
William Woods will next compete in the Lincoln Open, hosted by NCAA Division II Lincoln University, next Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium in Jefferson City.
