JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Despite cold, wet and windy conditions, William Woods University had five medalist displays in the Lincoln Open, hosted by NCAA Division II Lincoln University Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

The weather didn't stop the Owls' talented group of distance runners as Sarah Kirby earned silver in the four-competitor 3,000-meter run at 11 minutes and 56.63 seconds, whileHailey Gerard (third place, 4:53.8) and Mekayla Gibson (fourth, 4:54.16 - personal record, previous best: 5:00.01) were two of four runners to break 5 minutes in the 21-competitior 1,500 run.

"Considering the cold and rainy conditions, I was happy with so many solid performances today," William Woods track and field assistant Gregory A. Keeler said. "I was very impressed with Hailey and Mekayla both finishing under 5 minutes; this is an amazing accomplishment even on the best days."

Lexi Clifford took home WWU's lone medal in a field event, placing second out of 17 in the javelin at 29.96 meters (98 feet and 4 inches).

The Owls also notched a medalist showing in a relay with their 4x100-meter team of De'Prisha Chatman, Jesse Gresham, Rylie Bales and Madison Dixon taking fourth out of four at 53.31 seconds. First-year runner Gresham also had a solid showing in the 100 dash, advancing to the finals and finishing seventh out of 14 at 13.9.

William Woods will next compete in the Outdoor Mule Relays, hosted by NCAA Division II University of Central Missouri, at noon Friday at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field in Warrensburg.
