#17 Owls Take Doubles Point, Fall to NCAA DII #45 Northwest Missouri State

FULTON, Mo. - In a matchup between two of the top men's college tennis teams in Missouri, No. 17 William Woods University's (11-7) Robbie Schorr won in No. 1 doubles and No. 6 singles as the Owls fell 5-2 to NCAA Division II No. 45 Northwest Missouri State University (10-7) Tuesday at Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.

Battling matchup for matchup for the doubles point, WWU took the first contest to conclude with Noah Burton and Schorr winning 6-2 over the Bearcats' Louis Lieberz and Hugo Alvarez Gonzalez at the top position. 

NWMSU tied it up when the Owls' Aoi Ooka and Jesper Seger lost 6-2 to Dominik Wijntjes and Antonin Leborne at the two. 

Denying the Bearcats the doubles point, The Woods' Thomas Geukemeijer and Cole Horton earned a 6-3 victory over Rafal Bednarczuk and Vinicius Rodrigues at the three.

Horton, ranked 46th in the latest ITA NAIA men's tennis singles rankings, lost the first singles matchup to finish 6-3, 6-4 to Leborne, who is slotted 75th in the most recent ITA NCAA Division II men's tennis singles rankings. In another nationally-ranked faceoff, Northwest Missouri State took the team lead for good after No. 37 Burton fell 6-4, 6-4 to No. 21 Wijntjes.

Following those two marquee matchups, the Owls' Thomas Geukemeijer dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Niccolo Chiriatti at the four line, then Ooka lost 6-4, 6-2 to Rodrigues at the three slot.

Schorr picked up The Woods' lone singles victory in the quickest contest - lasted 59 minutes - beating Thomas Desgris 6-0, 6-1.

Seger ended play, falling 6-1, 7-5 to Alvarez Gonzalez at the five spot.

William Woods (3-0 Heart of America Athletic Conference) will play away from home for the first time in a month when it takes on Heart rival, (RV) Missouri Baptist University (12-5, 2-0 Heart) at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
