MADISON, Ill. - All four Owls competing on Day 2 climbed up the 41-golfer leaderboard as William Woods University placed fifth out of seven teams in the UHSP Spring Invitational, which took place Monday and Tuesday at Gateway Golf Links, where the Gateway Arch can be seen from the greens.
While WWU improved as a whole from Round 1 to Round 2, one Owl in particular played consistent golf throughout. That was American Midwest Conference Women's Golfer of the Week
Kennedy Dickerson, who led Woods by tying for 13th with a 28-over 170 (86, 84).
Alissa Olson epitomized the Owls' rise, with her team-best eight-stroke improvement from Day 1 to Day 2, elevating her a team-best seven spots up the standings. The senior from the Missouri Bootheel town of Malden carded a Round 1 24-over 95 before finishing strong with a Round 2 87 for a total score of 182.
Tying for 22nd with Olson, WWU's
Allyson Hollrah had a two-stroke improvement from the opening to the final round, shooting a 90 after scoring a 92.
Team-side, the Owls, in their last regular season competition, placed ahead of AMC foes University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis and Missouri Baptist University. WWU achieved that with a 152-over 720 (361, 359).
"Proud of how they played this week and battled through both rounds, and looking forward to carrying confidence into conference," William Woods golf coach
Aaron Murphy said.
It'll get real for William Woods when it tees off in its final AMC Championship from April 28-29 at Cooper's Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne, Arkansas. The Owls have been the most successful program through the tournament's first 18 editions, winning 14 team and 12 individual championships - their most recent first-place silverware earned in 2021.
