Owls Drop Tough One to Baker

Fulton, Mo. – In the Owls' home opener in Heart of America Conference play, William Woods University (2-2-1, 0-1-1 HAAC) dropped their match to a tough Baker University (3-2-1, 1-1 HAAC). The Owls were shut out in this match-up, 2-0, as they got 7 shots on goal compared to Baker's 10 shots on goal.

The first half of this match was competitive as it ended scoreless when the clock hit zero to head to halftime. Both teams traded shots on goal, with the Owls having 4 shots on goal and the Wildcats having 5 shots on goal. The defense stood out for the Owls, as it was highlighted by Matthew Dworak and his 4 saves in this half.
In the second half, the scoreless tie was broken in unfortunate fashion as the owls scored a self-goal in the 46th minute to put the Wildcats ahead 1-0.

The Owls did not stand down as they continued their tough defense, holding the Wildcats to that one goal for the majority of the 2nd half. But, in the 81st minute, the Wildcats struck again, scoring another goal to bring the score to 2-0.

That would ultimately be the dagger as the Owls could not muster any goals in the final minutes of the match, and they would fall to the Wildcats 2-0

The Owls are back in action Saturday as they hit the road to take on HAAC opponent Mount Mercy University at 3:30 p.m. in Cedar Rapids.
