FULTON, MO – The William Woods Owls (11-3, HAAC 4-1) faced off against the Culver-Stockton Wildcats (5-8, HAAC 1-4) in another Heart of America conference battle at Anderson Arena.
In a match that saw 13 aces from the Owls,
Ivi Marcolino started off the night with 2 kills and an ace herself to put the Owls ahead 3-0 early. The Wildcats would continue to fight throughout this match, pacing the Owls through the first set. The performance from Ivi was the difference for the Owls, as they won 25-23.
In the second set, the Owls would continue their dominance as
Ivi Marcolino and Luciana Pavia Pereira recorded 2 points each to start the set for the Owls. The Wildcats had no answers for the Owls this set as 6 kills from Ivi, 4 kills from Luciana, and 2 kills and 2 aces from
Pamela Durazo would power the Owls to a 25-18 set win over the Wildcats.
The 3
rd set saw the Wildcats fight back as they would give the Owls a run for their money. The Owls seem to have no answers for the Wildcats in this set, as they allowed an 11-2 run that powered the Wildcats to a commanding 25-15 win in set 3.
The Owls would not be fazed, as they would bounce back right away in the 4
th set with a 5-1 run start to the set. 2 kills from
Pamela Durazo in the middle of the set seemed to be what fired the Owls up as they continued to run away with the lead from there. To cap off the night,
Cecilia Campos, who recorded 7 total aces on the night, would ace 3 times to drive the Owls to a dominating 25-8 set win and match win.
The Owls are back in action Friday as they hit the road to face off against HAAC opponent William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa, at 7 p.m.
