Fulton, MO – The William Woods University Owls (0-4, 0-1 Heart) hosted the Central Methodist University Eagles (2-3, 1-0 Heart) for the start of conference play for William Woods.
The Eagles would go on to defer the coin toss and give the ball to the Owls to start the game, and would get no result in the opening drive. The Eagles would come out on offense and convert on the next two offensive drives to give Central Methodist a 14-0 lead over Woods. The Owls would respond right before the end of the first as QB
Gabe Serri would find WR
Bryson Nealy for a 71-yard bomb to bring the score to 14-6 after a blocked extra point.
The Eagles would keep the ball to start the second quarter and continue to score on 9 plays for 60 yards to expand the lead to 21-6. After that, the Eagles would ramp up the defense, as they would stand up the Owls for the remainder of the second quarter and add on a field goal to take a 24-6 lead into the half.
The Owls' defense would step up for Woods and force a 3 and out and get the ball back in the offense's hands early in the third. That would be the momentum the Owls needed as
Gabe Serri would march Woods down the field with a 32-yard pass to
Bryson Nealy and find RB
Jalen Proctor for a 14-yard reception for a touchdown.
The Owls would bring the score to 24-14 after a good 2-point conversion from
Bryson Nealy.
The Eagles would take the hit and bounce back with back-to-back scoring drives on offense to expand the lead for Central Methodist to 38-14 as a gut punch for the Owls to end the third quarter.
To start the fourth quarter, William Woods would still have no answer for the Eagles as they would keep extending the lead to 52, as that feat would be too much for the Owls to come back despite the Owls getting a late-game touchdown from
Bryson Nealy again to bring the final of the game to 52-24 to give the Eagles the win in the opener of conference play for the Owls.
The Owls are back in action next Saturday as they hit the road towards Baldwin City, Kansas, to take on Baker University at 1 p.m.
