FULTON, Mo. – (RV) William Woods men's wrestling hosted the (RV) Baker Wildcats inside Anderson Arena. The first matchup between the two teams did not disappoint, as the dual came down to a 24-24 finish with the Wildcats winning on criteria.
The night started with a 125-pound weight class win for Baker, with William Woods leaving the class open. The crowd finally saw action in the 133-pound weight class as standout sophomore Braden Werdenhausen took on Nick Prado. The grappler from Baker narrowly overcame the prowess of Werdenhausen, taking the win in the matchup.
Kael Glenn resumed his winning ways with a victory in the 141-pound weight class, closing the gap for the Owls. Baker responded with a win at 149 pounds, setting the stage for one of the most electrifying bouts inside Anderson Arena this season. Sophomore standout Whit Nichols, taking on Michael Daily, earned a quick pin in front of an energized home crowd.
The Wildcats answered once again with a win in the 165-pound weight class, leaving the Owls just within arm's reach. Star grappler and December Student-Athlete of the Month Elijah Brocksmith continued his dominance on the mat, securing a key win over Baker's Messik. The Wildcats left the 184-pound weight class open, while the Owls left the heavyweight class open, setting up a match-deciding bout at 197 pounds.
Woods' Dominic Mullen was set to take on Baker's Kevin Lund. Mullen, a junior from Sikeston, Mo., went all three rounds with Lund, earning a 6-1 decision victory and falling just one takedown short of securing the match win for the Owls.
