FAYETTE, Mo. – The men's basketball team was back in conference action Wednesday night but came up short on the road, falling 79–68 to Central Methodist (11-5, 5-3 Heart).
William Woods (5–12, 2–7 Heart) battled throughout the first half and kept things close early, trading baskets with the Eagles through the opening half. Central Methodist held a slim 37–33 advantage at the break, setting up a competitive second half.
The Owls stayed within striking distance coming out of the locker room, but a strong offensive push from the Eagles created separation down the stretch. Central Methodist outscored Woods 42–35 in the second half to secure the win over the Owls, 79-68 at the final buzzer.
Oshae Barquet led the Owls offensively with 14 points, while
Jacob LaBounty added 12 points.
Clay Butler chipped in 11,
Brock Davis finished with 10, and
Mark Onyejekwe added nine to round out a balanced scoring effort for Woods.
William Woods will look to bounce back next Wednesday as the Pioneers from Mid America Nazarene University come to Anderson Arena for a 7:30 P.M. tip.
