Second Half Surge Not Enough for The Owls

FAYETTE, Mo. – The William Woods (2-12, 2-7 Heart) women's basketball team dropped a Heart of America matchup on the road Wednesday night, falling to Central Methodist (9-7,4-4 Heart), 62–49.

The Owls found themselves playing from behind early as the Eagles jumped out to a quick start in the opening half. William Woods struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first quarter, trailing 25–10 after the opening period. The Owls settled in defensively in the second quarter, holding the Eagles to just nine points as they kept the game within striking distance going into the break.

Out of the break, the defense would still stand tall as the Owls would only allow nine points, shortening the lead down to just eight points with Mya Pflasterer putting up 10 points for the Owls in the third quarter. William Woods continued to battle on the glass and defensively down the stretch, but the early deficit would be too much to overcome, and Central Methodist closed the game strong in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Mya finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds, while Mariah Prince finished with a double-double on the night with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Owls will look to bounce back as they return to action next Wednesday, as they will play host to Mid-America Nazarene University for a 5:30 P.M. tip in Anderson Arena.
