FULTON, Mo. — William Woods wrestling hosted Saint Ambrose University on Wednesday night, battling the Bees to a 24-24 tie in a competitive dual. Woods would eventually lose the match on a 59-50 total point tiebreak. 

The dual opened at 149, with Presley Hartwig falling to Elijah Bratten. Woods' Graeme Metzdorf dropped the next matchup as well, by fall just 39 seconds into the match.  

At 165 pounds, Conner Menke earned a fall over Luke Kessler at 1:40. Elijah Brocksmith followed at 174 pounds with a 24-9 technical fall over Vincent Tindal at 6:55. 

Austen Wetzel added another bonus-point victory at 197 pounds, recording a 17-2 technical fall over Lucas Blanton in 2:14. 

Deryl VanNostrand capped the Owls' victories at heavyweight, earning a fall over James Soliz at 2:12. 

Jayce Estes drew the dual closer with a win at 125 pounds in an 8-6 decision over Augustus Swanson. 

The deciding match, the nightcap as well, featured nationally ranked Guiseppe Guerra and Braden Werdenhausen. The highly anticipated matchup did not disappoint, going the distance in a close 7-2 decision in favor of St.-A.  

St. Ambrose also recorded five victories in the team-scoring matches, including three falls and a major decision, resulting in the 24-24 tie.  

The Owls also competed in three additional exhibition matches, with Cooper Houser, Josiah Oliver and Hudson Karr appearing in those bouts. Those results did not count toward the team score. 

Woods received a costly point deduction for unsportsmanlike conduct that eventually led to the 24-24 tie and, in turn, the team loss.  

The Owls return to the mat on November 14th at the renowned Drury University Open.
