CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- In and end to their 2026 campaign, William Woods softball (24-23) dropped a 5-1 game to Grand View University (37-15) on Saturday afternoon. The Woods tallied just two hits in the contest, both coming off the bat of Lexi Lewis.
The Vikings tallied the first runs in the game with a two-spot in the bottom of the second. Grand View extended their lead by a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Vikings rattled off two hits and a hit by pitch in the inning. The lone WWU run in the contest came in the top of the sixth when Lewis' leadoff single was brought around to score and send the game to the bottom half with a 3-1 scoreline in favor of Grand View.
William Woods surrendered two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth and were unable to scratch any runs in the seventh as they were retired in four hitters.
This ends the first season in the Heart of America Athletic Conference for William Woods. The Owls were originally selected as the 10th best team in the conference preseason poll before finishing in the #6 slot for the conference tournament. With the successful season, Coach Gastineau sits at 867 career wins as the Owls look to reload for 2027.
