(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 9)--The William Woods University men's soccer team defeated American Midwest Conference rival Harris-Stowe State University 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, WWU improves to 8-3-1 on the year and 2-2 in the AMC.
Freshman
Joao Paulo Dutra Parra (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored in the 5th and 9th minute to give the Owls an early 2-0 lead over the Hornets. Junior
Zach Hurst (Jefferson City, Mo.) was credited with the assist on the first goal. Junior
Christyan Busato (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was credited with the assist on the second goal.
Harris-Stowe (0-13, 0-4) cut the lead in half on a goal in the 55th minute. WWU responded quickly with a goal in the 57th minute. Junior
Ruben Ramirez (Homestead, Fla.) made a pass into the box to freshman
Joel De Leon (Simi Valley, Calif.). De Leon found the back of the net to push the WWU back to two goals.
Dutra Parra finished his day with another goal in the 70th minute to give William Woods a 4-1 lead. He now has four goals on the season.
HSSU tallied nine shots on the afternoon, four of which were on goal. William Woods recorded 13 shots, nine on goal. Senior
Cory Herchenroeder (St. Louis, Mo.) had three saves in goal in the WWU victory.
William Woods will return to action on October 12. The Owls host Central Methodist University at 5 pm on Firley Field.
