Owls Go 1-1 at McKendree

(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 18)--The William Woods University volleyball team split a pair of matches at the McKendree University tri-match on Saturday. The Owls lost 3-1 to American Midwest Conference rival McKendree University, and defeated Benedictine University at Springfield 3-0.

The Owls lost to McKendree in the first match of the day 21-25, 25-22, 20-25 and 24-26. The Owls held a 24-21 lead in the fourth set with the serve. They were unable to hang on, and lost the set and the match.

Sophomore Alicia Green (Midlothian, Texas) had a team-high 10 kills for WWU. Sophomore Emily Nolte (Higginsville, Mo.) recorded 15 assists in the loss. Sophomore Amanda Henley (Jefferson City, Mo.) was credited with 22 digs for the Owls. Senior Jessica Deetz (Nixa, Mo.) had two blocks for the Owls in the AMC loss.

William Woods had little trouble with BU-S in the final match of the day. The Owls won 25-13, 25-12 and 25-20. Junior Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Texas) led the Owls with eight kills. Nolte recorded 16 assists in the win. Henley had a team-high 23 digs for the Owls.

WWU is now 6-4 on the season, 1-2 in the AMC. They return to action on September 20 versus AMC foe Williams Baptist College. First serve is scheduled for 5 pm in Anderson Arena.
